10 Books in 10 Days - Day 7

As we head into February, Black History Month & Aspenne's birth month - we decided it would be a great time to feature some of the great titles we're reading!

On Day 7, we're reading:

Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed, illustrated by Stasia Burrington

Book Summary:

"When Little Mae was a child, she dreamed of dancing in space. She imagined herself surrounded by billions of stars, floating, gliding, and discovering.

She wanted to be an astronaut.

Her mom told her, "If you believe it, and work hard for it, anything is possible.”

Little Mae’s curiosity, intelligence, and determination, matched with her parents' encouraging words, paved the way for her incredible success at NASA as the first African American woman to travel in space.

This book will inspire other young girls to reach for the stars, to aspire for the impossible, and to persist with childlike imagination.

Our Thoughts:

We first read Mae Among the Stars when Aspenne was just 4 months old and woah did the illustrations catch her eyes! So much so, that she sat straight up in her Boppy and shocked the heck out of me! Our friend Brittany and Charlotte gifted us this book right in time for Aspenne to showcase her strong stomach muscles! We love reading about Mae Jemison and I love that Aspenne gets to see Black women excelling at being brave, courageous and skilled! Mae Among the Stars will forever be one of our favorite reads!

Check out Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed and let us know what you think!
